WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS COLLEAGUES

When you meet a new contact make sure you get their card and then on the back of their card (later) jot down something that you talked whether it be business or personal.

They will appreciate that you remembered such detail when you meet them again.

CLUTTER  CAN  ’KILL’  YOUR  BUSINESS

Having clutter can cost you time: How many hours have spent  searching for that letter or file. You know you put it away somewhere safe – but where ?

Having clutter can hold you back: You need to keep your mind clear ready for new ideas to grow.    Get rid of all those things you have kept – “just in case”-    This will allow you to move ahead quickly and without distractions.

Having clutter can stop you from making important decisions: Clutter can stagnate the energy around you.   It is really difficult to make important decisions when you have excess clutter on hand.

Having clutter can make you procrastinate: First things first – Don’t procrastinate in getting rid of the clutter.   Set aside time to concentrate on a complete clean out.

Having clutter can make you disorganised: GET ORGANISED – Start with several empty boxes and ‘sort” as you go.    Then work on just one box at a time with a GARBAGE BIN on hand to toss everything that you really don’t need to hang on to.

WORST OF ALL -Having clutter can cost you financially: Make sure you are ready to ‘go’ when that next idea,  client,  project  etc  comes along.   Many a great businesses idea has never eventuated because clutter stood in the way.   Give your finances a fighting chance by throwing out the clutter.

Top tips to help you make the most of networking. How you can improve your networking skills?

Planning
• Choose carefully the events you go to.

Arriving
• Arrive on time for the event – it always seems a lot easier to introduce yourself to someone when you are one of the first arrivals.

Business cards
• If people are interested in what you do generally they will ask for a card – don’t offer your card right at the outset.

Connecting
• Treat everyone the same and never make assumptions about the people you meet.

Don’t ask, offer!
• Offer information and contacts to match the links. It provides a reason for follow-up and staying in contact.

Listen
• Listen to what other people do first and (everyone is interested if you’re interested in them) and listen for link words that connect with who you are and what you do.

Mix
• If you are not very confident try not to attach yourself (like glue) to the first person you get speaking to. Remember the person you are talking to, whilst they might be enjoying your company, probably wants to be able to chat to one or two other people as well.

Taking notes
• As a memory aid it can often be useful to jot down a few notes about the person on the back of their business card.

Talking
• Keep conversation to neutral topics, avoid taking over the conversation. Ask questions that require more than yes/no answers.

Follow up
• Try to follow up with people you have met (recap on your notes on business cards, add useful contacts to your database).

Finally
• If you have tried all the tips and you still don’t feel comfortable ‘try’ again! Practice makes perfect.

Networking is simply building and forging relationships but the benefits can be tremendous. By joining a networking initiative such as Business Women In Touch you become part of a helpful network, which offers networking in a supportive and non-threatening environment.

Being part of a network can help eliminate any fear and help you network your way to success.
